'Manta Ray' is inspired by the ocean when I attended a retreat at Lady Elliot Island. The fluid form and graceful curves of this sculpture is reminiscent of the majestic manta rays that glide as if dancing, through the pristine waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
This sculptural form is hand coiled then sprayed with my signature ash glaze which I make with the ash from my fireplace at home. The spraying of the glaze deliberately mimics the effect achieved by wood-firing, thereby enhancing the shape and movement of my sculptures.
The graceful lines and organic surfaces reflect my love of sensory exploration and movement, and invites viewers to engage in a tactile response.
